Attività di ricerca
Il settore di Zoocolture del Dipartimento di Scienze Animali, Vegetali e dell’Ambiente (SAVA) si è occupato di problematiche legate alla salvaguardia del germoplasma avicolo, mediante:
- studio di tecniche di crioconservazione del seme avicolo, in particolare nel tacchino (Meleagris Gallopavo);
- applicazione di biotecnologie innovative (laser He-Ne) per ottimizzare la qualità di materiale seminale conservato;
- valutazione del materiale seminale mediante tecniche microscopiche (microscopia ottica in contrasto di fase e fluorescenza, microscopia a scansione elettronica (SEM) ), spettrofluorimetriche, spettrofotometriche;
- studio dell’attività riproduttiva di specie di interesse avifaunistico nell’ambito di programmi di restocking e reintroduzione (gobbo rugginoso, cicogna bianca, picchio bianco).

Titolo specifico del programma svolto dall'Unità di Ricerca: “Crioconservazione e ottimizzazione della qualità del seme congelato di tacchino” (Responsabile: Nicolaia Iaffaldano) nell’ambito del progetto generale dal titolo: “Ottimizzazione di una procedura di crioconservazione del materiale seminale in diverse specie avicole. Valutazione del danno cellulare e della fertilità dei gameti crioconservati ed applicazione di una biotecnologia innovativa (biostimolazione laser He-Ne) al fine di migliorare la qualità cellulare post-scongelamento” (Coordinatore: Silvia Cerolini).
